Outdoor Vitals Carbon Evo 50
Simple ultralight pack that will get the job done.
The Outdoor Vitals Carbon Evo 50 is an lightweight pack weighing 839g on my scale. It is a simple design consistenting of a rolltop main body, side pockets, a front pocket, and a full frame with loadlifters and a hipbelt. Hipbelt pockets come attached to the hipbelt. There are three torso sizes and 5 hipbelt sizes available – I tested the regular torso and medium hipbelt.
I have carried 40lbs in the Carbon Evo and found it carried that weight very well. You could probably carry 45lbs if you really needed to, but I think the comfort limit is 40lbs. The carbon fiber frame and loadlifters transfer weight to the hipbelt well. It is a lightweight pack, so the hipbelt uses lighter weight foam which does not carry weight as well as thicker and stiffer foam. Overall, the carry system of the Carbon Evo is very well designed and is why Outdoor Vitals could use lighter materials while still achieving an impressive carry limit.
For external access to items, the Carbon Evo has a front pocket, attached hipbelt pockets, and side pockets. Water bottle access from the side pockets is easy and the hipbelt pockets are large and can be opened and closed with one hand. I do wish the pack had a bottom pocket; it would add a lot of functionality for minimal weight.
Overall, the Outdoor Vitals Carbon Evo 50 is a well designed and solid lightweight pack. It keeps things simple, which allows it to be easy to use and functional. Some people might want a pack with more features, but I think the Carbon Evo will accommodate the majority of backpackers well.

Open Questions
What the full review still needs to answer.
- Will the nylon main material hold on to a lot of water when it is raining?
- Do I wish there were more accessibility pockets (e.g., bottom pocket or shoulder strap pockets)?
- Is the side pocket material durable enough?
